TEXAS ALLEGHENY KENNELS

I was raised hunting the beautiful longleaf piney woods of East Texas. It was common to average 10-11 coveys in a half day hunt. The woods were burned on a two year rotation and it was like hunting in a park. The timber companies owned 94% of the land and deer leases hadn't been thought of yet. That meant all timber company lands were open to the public and there were millions of acres available. But alas, nothing last for ever. By the 1970's all the longleaf pine was clear cut and slash pine plantations took the place of all the open piney woods. Quail habitat disappeared and along with it the quail.

Thankfully, about that time a neighbor gave me some back issues of the "American Field" magazine and I plunged head long into the world of bird dog field trials. It became a passion and a love combining horses and bird dogs. The sport has taken me to some of the greatest field trial grounds and private plantations in the country. I have been privileged to meet and be kindred souls with some of the greatest people in the world. I can count among my friends people ranging from weekend amateur trialers to famous Hall of Famers. I have ridden in the gallery, handled, scouted and judged some of the finest bird dogs the sport has to offer. I have always been a backyard breeder of English Pointers whose pedigrees are based on National Champions and/or Hall of Fame dogs. I count as the two best field trial/bird dogs that I have ever ridden behind were Red Water Rex, handled by Hoyle Eaton and Miller's Silver Ending, handled by David Grubb. One of my greatest regrets is that the use of frozen semen wasn't developed before Red Water Rex died. Just imagine how great it would be to have direct offspring of Rex in your kennel today!

So, if you love bird dogs and the outdoor life of pursuing all types of America's game birds, saddle up and come join us in the sporting life of bird dog field trials. Hope to see you there!

We will offer pups, started and finished dogs as available.
